Confirming that a channel is yours

Confirming ownership is a way of telling the directory “this channel is mine” so that it can be checked. It takes a minute and is done in the chat with @verif_50_bot.

What it gives you

  • an “owner confirmed” badge on the card — this one: Owner confirmed;
  • your submission skips the manual queue — except for sensitive topics, which a human always reviews;
  • we warn you if the link to the channel stops answering, before the card is archived;
  • a personal cabinet: /my in the bot opens a page where you can edit the card — name, description, topics and languages.

Editing the card afterwards

  1. Send /my to the bot — it replies with a link to the cabinet. The link works once and lasts 15 minutes; there is no password and none is needed.
  2. Pick the card and press Edit.
  3. Send it for review. An edit goes through the same rules as a new submission: a clean one reaches the catalogue within fifteen minutes, a doubtful one goes to a human. The bot writes to you either way.

The card's address, the channel link and the platform are not editable — visitors and search engines recognise the card by them.

First way: make the bot an administrator

The fastest one: nothing to copy, the bot works it out by itself.

  1. Open your channel in Telegram and press Manage channel.
  2. Choose Administrators → Add Administrator.
  3. Search for @verif_50_bot and pick it.
  4. You can switch every permission off — read access is enough. The bot does not need to post, delete or change settings.
  5. Save. The bot writes to your private chat: Confirmed.
  6. You can remove it from administrators right away — the confirmation stays.

The proof here is the appointment itself: only an administrator can add an administrator, and Telegram tells us who did it. That is why no code and no check are needed.

Second way: a code in the description

Good when you would rather not hand out admin rights, and the only way for bots.

  1. Send /verify to the bot.
  2. Send the handle — @mychannel or a link to it.
  3. The bot gives you a code like 50bots-a1b2c3. Copy it.
  4. In Telegram: Manage channel → Description — paste the code at the end of the description and save.
    For a bot, the description is changed in @BotFather with /setabouttext.
  5. Go back to the chat and press Check the code.
  6. The bot answers Confirmed. You can remove the code from the description.

The code lasts 15 minutes. If it expires, send /verify again for a new one.

If it does not work

  • “The code is not in the description yet” — Telegram sometimes takes a minute to show a change. Wait and press Check again.
  • “The code has expired” — more than fifteen minutes passed. Start again with /verify.
  • “That confirmation was started from another account” — the button was pressed from a different account than the one that started. Start again from yours.
  • The bot says nothing after you made it an administrator — this happens if you have never written to it: Telegram does not let bots message first. Open t.me/verif_50_bot, press Start and try again.

The card is not in the directory yet

You can confirm before publication too. The badge appears on the card the moment it is created — nothing has to be repeated. How to submit a card is described in Submitting through the Telegram bot.
